Today was not a good day for the challenge. I guess that is part of the #MindfulMay challenge. I stayed at my sister’s house last night in preparation for 10 mile walk today. Diane and Stuart are such good hosts. I didn’t really have any of the usual daily chores that would have fitted the brief. I plumped for mindfully drinking my water whilst on the hike.
I am aware that there are millions of people who don’t have clean, safe water to drink whenever thirst arises. Yet only today we have sent supplies from Earth to the international space station. I am glad the astronauts will get their water, but I can't be the only one who feels this says something unhealthy about our civilisation. If you want to help change this, please take a look at www.wateraid.org
I stopped around 3 miles in, opened my rucksack and pulled out my water bottle. Normally I would have chugged down enough water to leave me breathless. Today, I slowly savoured every mouthful. After my thirst was quenched and the bottle safely back in my rucksack, my thoughts drifted to how much effort had been contributed by others to provide my water. The construction of reservoirs, laying of pipes, installing and running sanitation equipment, pumps to keep the water flowing, the list goes on and on... I am very grateful for all that effort.
Drinking water is not a chore, it is really a privilege. However, it is something I normally do without awareness or gratitude. How was Day 5 for you? Did you find a chore to do mindfully?
Be happy, healthy and helpful
