#MindfulMay – Day 29

I chose my mid-morning coffee for the “sniffing exercise”, as a friend called it. There is a whole routine I go through and a certain brand I like to use. The aroma (or at least how it is for me) has a lovely mix of cocoa, burnt wood and autumn leaves. I took several deep breaths during the 4 minutes it was brewing. The feeling evoked was one of giddy excitement.

After a moment, I realised that I was briefly transported to France when I was around 12 years old. I was having breakfast in a hotel (more like a hostel) with my friends on the trip. It was my first trip abroad and holiday away from my family. We were having milky coffee and croissants with jam for breakfast. I think this might have been my first coffee, we were very much a tea family. So much about that trip that has come to mind as I was enjoying drinking my coffee. The feeling most prominent as I finished it was a sense of good fortune.

I am looking forward to trying this exercise with some different scents/odours. I will also try coffee again, to see how different it is next time. How did the day 29 #MindfulMay challenge go for you? What did you choose?

Be happy, healthy and helpful

Paul
