I am sure I heard a pop in my brain whilst doing today’s #MindfulMay challenge. In a good way, I think. Most of my academic background is in science and engineering. So, “cause and effect” is metaphorically carved into my conscious and probably unconscious mind. I can enthusiastically create a cause and effect diagram, even do a fairly thorough FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis). I tried to do the exercise for an hour but had to stop after half an hour.
I was doing some chores around the house. Nothing major, just tidying and washing. At first, I was fully absorbed in the challenge and enjoying it. I love the World of action. I do action ‘X’ and outcome ‘Y’ is the result.
I was taking the washing from the machine feeling how it was damp and kind of squeaky if that makes sense. I got lost in thinking about everything that had gone into making these clothes, the machine and the room I was in. All the causes and effects that had resulted in me being here to do this simple task. The pop was like a bubble wrap popping sound. I felt overwhelmed but not unwell. Trying to write this down is frustrating because I am struggling to find the words. It was something like a feeling of contentment or gratitude or both. Like I was doing and feeling exactly how I was meant to.
I took 10 minutes or so to appreciate how I was feeling, then made a cup of tea before writing this.
Have you ever experienced something like this? How did today’s challenge go for you?
Be happy, healthy and helpful
