Shadow boxing took me back a long way. If you asked me, have I shadow boxed before? My answer would have been a firm no. However, the boom noises, which I made involuntarily when throwing a heavy punch, took me back to time when I think I did it quite a lot. I even remember a punch ball I had as a kid.
Ten minutes was quite a long time, or at least for me it was. It wasn’t long before I was panting a little. I noticed I exhaled when throwing a punch. There’s an ache in my right shoulder when I throw a right cross. The cause is a broken arm from about ten years ago. I really enjoyed trying to get my shadow to duck or dodge a punch. I guess that is a lot easier when you are the person throwing the punch too. By the end, I had worked up a bit of a sweat. Perhaps next time I will not do it in the blazing sunshine.
I don’t know why, but mindful exercise has never really occurred to me. My mindset previously is more like, “let’s get this over with”. After a long internal debate about shall I exercise or shan’t I. I will quit the internal debate and be more mindful when exercising from now on.
Did anyone else feel a little “silly” at first? Did you manage to do the #mindfulmay day 12 challenge anyway?
Be happy, healthy and helpful
