I had 15 minutes* or so before a conference call. I got into my usual meditation position, closed my eyes, and focussed on the breath. Full of good intentions, the mind began planning the conversation. Back to the breath. Nope, back to the conversation, and whilst we are at it, remember to write your blog about doing this challenge. And so it went on until my phone rang.
Meditation is like this sometimes. It is also sometimes very, very different. Sometimes it can be illuminating and at others not at all. “Future gazing” is a common one for me. It has been of huge benefit on occasion and on others a meaningless distraction from the present. Some would argue it always is a meaningless distraction. As a wise man once said, “Even if your past and present are great, you still cannot live there.”
*I almost wrote, "15 minutes to kill". What an awful figure of speech that is!
Are you patient and present whilst waiting? Any advice for me or others?
Be happy, healthy and helpful
Paul
